Our Wings School Cumbria are promoting the use of approaches based on the PACE model, which promotes Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy. PACE is a way of thinking and communicating that supports children and young people to feel safe. It is based on how parents connect with very young children.
“PACE focuses on the whole child, not just their behaviour. It helps children to think about themselves and to build on positives to develop their skills” - Mike Faulkner, Head of Pastoral Care.
“PACE emphasises the importance of building positive relationships. Developing and maintaining relationships is at the heart of the Wings ethos, and has proven to be the best way to support young people to make progress in all aspects of their development” (Jo Simm, Educational Psychologist).
PACE concentrates on the whole child/young person and not just the behaviours typically displayed. PACE aids children in being more secure with adults and works to help them think about themselves, their feelings, thoughts, and behaviour, developing the skills that are required for sustaining a successful and fulfilling life.
