Wings Cumbria young people were making the most of the good weather and learning outside the classroom.
The young people were up at Urswick Scout Camp learning bushcraft and studying the environment.
Here are some comments from our young people;
'I like making the fire and the little craft projects we have done, I like being outside, I’ve learnt survival skills, enjoyed being part of a group and spending time with my friends' – J
'You learn lots of stuff about the outdoors and it helps you survive if you got lost. I’ve been learning about what different trees there are and what they are called '– I
'It gets me out into the outdoors. I enjoy making the fire and cooking food on it' – T
'I like the dry stone walling we have been doing. I like getting outside. I’m trying to get fitter and it's helped me with that' – A
Kedleston aims to have a broad range of experiences for all its young people, helping them with skills development and building their self-confidence. Outdoor learning is an established method for engaging our young people and developing functional skills.
At Kedleston, we have many young people who have not been engaging in education. When young people come to us, we strive to re-engage them using a wide variety of activities and experiences.
