National Growing for Wellbeing Week is an initiative set up by Life at No.27. The aim is to raise awareness and celebrate all the advantages that growing and nurturing your own plants and produce can bring.
The campaign helps to highlight the link between gardening and mental and physical health.
The team at our Wings School Cumbria know the importance of outdoor education and in fact, learning outdoors is a big part of the extensive curriculum offer.
The school boasts a range of practical activities and outdoor learning opportunities including archery, trampolining, paddle boarding, forest school, photography, motor biking, equine facilitated learning, Duke of Edinburgh Award, John Muir Award and off-road buggies to name but a few!
There is also a fully operational onsite mini-farm where the children can take part in all aspects of farm life from caring for the animals to growing delicious fruit and vegetables to eat in the school.
Here you can see the raised planters which have been built next to the new food tech room on-site. The salad and veggies/herbs can be picked by the children to use in their recipes! A fantastic example of seed to table living.
