This half term sees the return of Equine Education at Wings School Cumbria.
Four pupils worked hard in school this week to be chosen as the first group to experience the sessions.
It was a beautiful day to be outside and there was a lot of excitement and anticipation for the new venue, the horses, and a brand-new programme. The day started with a tour of the yard and a meet and greet of the horses and ponies.
Following some introductory work, the young people got straight on with grooming and tacking up. The older pupils who have previously completed accredited courses were on hand to help those who haven't been quite so 'hands on' before! It wasn't long before everybody was ready for a brief assessment of their riding in the arena before heading out onto local farmland to enjoy a sunny afternoon hack.
Smiles could be seen from ear to ear on the faces of the children. The biggest smile belonged to Miss Atherton who is delighted to be delivering the new Equine Education programme in partnership with the British Horse Society and their 'Changing Lives Through Horses' programme.
Every young person at Wings Cumbria is being offered the chance to sample a day on the course which will officially start in September as part of the timetable.
We look forward to sharing more about the benefits and outcomes alongside more photography from this fantastic programme.
