Two of our aspiring young farmers from Wings School Cumbria headed off to the local animal livestock auctions on Saturday morning to try their hand at bidding for some new chickens to add to the current flock.
Armed with their lot number, they bid on an array of different breeds and came home with Silver/Brown pullets, Light Sussex, White Ambers and Araucuna’s all of which produce an array of different coloured eggs.
This venture is part of the school’s drive to encourage young enterprise amongst the children, the farm initiative is run as a business venture, where they are responsible for managing and maintaining the welfare of our livestock.
All visitors will be given the opportunity to purchase these fresh and delicious free range eggs, half the proceeds will be donated to Derian House Children’s Hospice and half put back into the business.
The school has a vision to maintain a safe, and caring community where there is a passion for learning and mutual respect for all. Children and young people have the opportunity to develop to their full potential in preparation for their future lives.
Keep up the good work!
