To maximise opportunities for children and young people at Olsen House School, education and support are provided in very small class sizes. The school follows the National Curriculum, with modifications based on the learning and development needs of our pupils. Some pupils have individually modified timetables designed to consider individual educational and learning needs. Children and young people enjoy studying for a wide range of qualifications including Functional skills, GCSE’s and BTEC, there is also a strong emphasis on learning outside the classroom e.g., Duke of Edinburgh, water sports, climbing and hiking.

The school offers a variety of different learning spaces which include Science laboratory, Art room, Computing and IT, Food technology, Nurture learning space and a Therapeutic support and quiet space. There are outdoor social and play areas.

The school accesses local sports and leisure facilities and uses a number of community-based settings for much of this learning. Our curriculum offers opportunities for children and young people to visit galleries, theatres, community projects and places of cultural and spiritual importance.

Specialist staff work within the schools Bluebird Centre. It has been developed to meet the needs of children and young people who may have a primary diagnosis of autism alongside other diagnoses including ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, developmental coordination disorder and sensory processing disorders. We use an allotment nearby that those based in the Bluebird centre visit weekly.

Specialist teachers work closely with an experienced clinical team to provide the best support and care for each and every child and young person.
