Job Description

Description of Role:

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the House manager to ensure effective leadership of the house and residential community when on duty, such that it is organised, and managed in a manner that delivers the best possible child care. 

Ensuring a high standard of care and support is available to each child when on duty and that all child care practices in place meet the requirements of current legislation and the expectations of the inspecting regulatory bodies.

Duties and Responsibilities Specific to the Post:

1. Performing the duties of a Care Support Worker to ensure the welfare needs of the children in our care are met.

2. Participating in the safeguarding of all the children and ensuring that High Peak School Limited Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy is adhered to

3. Promoting and ensuring the general health, safety and welfare of the staff and children and ensuring adherence to High Peak Ltd Health and Safety Policy, and contributing to High Peak Ltd Risk Assessment programme.

4. Ensuring all the medical needs of the children are catered for and routine appointments and check-ups are maintained.

5. Ensuring that all current legislation is followed in relation to the handling, recording, safekeeping, administering and disposal of medication.

6. Maintaining appropriate liaisons with parents / guardians and outside agencies and attending statutory looked after reviews providing accurate information on the young person.

7. Attending meetings of staff and young people under the direction of the Registered Manager/Head of Care.

8. Sharing the responsibility for the operational and management of budgets relevant to residential life with fellow Managers.

9. Taking a full and active role in the induction, supervision, training and performance management of the care staff which you hold responsibility for, and in particular working with other senior staff in promoting safe practices in positive handling.

10. Participating in the recruitment and selection of members of the care team including hosting Care Worker visits and attending and contributing to interviews.

11. Collaborating with the Leadership Team and Team Teach Instructors in implementing and monitoring relevant aspects of High Peak Ltd.’s Behaviour Management: Policy, Procedures and Guidance.

12. Maintaining detailed records and logs pertaining to the above areas and monitoring all other aspects of paperwork ensuring high standards of recording are maintained.

13. Participating in preparing and reviewing Placement Plans for each child and ensuring these are updated at regular intervals to the young people’s changing needs and meet all regulatory guides. Attend Reviews to represent the School as and when it is appropriate to do so.

14. Contributing to the development, review and revision of policies, procedures guidance and documentation appropriate to residential life and ensuring all staff know, understand and adhere to these policies.

15. Undertaking other such duties of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Registered Manager/Head of Care.

16. To adhere at all times to the GSCC Codes of Practice.

Training and Development

1. Participating in arrangements for his / her induction, supervision, training and development.

2. Successfully completing all training and qualifications in accordance with organisational and regulatory requirements.

3. Reviewing his / her own methods of care and support.

Performance Management

1. Participating in your own Performance Management arrangements.
