Deputy Head Teacher - Mill School

We are looking for an inspirational leader, committed to the highest achievement for all.

Purpose of the post

· Provide professional leadership of the school to achieve outstanding success.

  • A primary specialist to run the curriculum into KS3
  • Someone who will lead on numeracy and literacy standards
  • Someone who is passionate about assessment for learning
  • Someone who always wanted to be a teacher, taken on several strategic roles and has a proven track record in raising standards.

Key responsibility areas

  • To deputise for the Head Teacher when she is off site

· Strategic leadership and management

· Leadership and management of students’ attainment and progress

· Leadership and management of staff

· Leadership and management of the curriculum

· Leadership of learning and teaching and behaviour for learning

· Financial and resources leadership and management through the SLT

· Management of resources and premises

· Leadership and management of the school within its community

· Be the deputy safeguarding lead

Strategic direction and development

The Deputy Head teacher will:

· Work with the Head Teacher to develop and communicate a clear strategic vision in close collaboration with all key stakeholders

· Motivate and empower others to carry the vision and values of the school forward

· Be responsible for the management, development and resourcing policies of the school

· Contribute to recruiting students and staff, ensure the statutory requirements, the decisions of the Directors and the needs of the pupils/students, their parents and the community are met

· Manage a complex organisation effectively and ensure the successful implementation of change

· Work in harmony with the directors, local schools, other schools and other partners as appropriate

· Ensure compliance with legislation and school policies

Teaching, learning and students

The Deputy Head teacher will:

· Meet the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum

· Develop a motivational, broad and relevant curriculum in line with the new Ofsted framework

· Ensure students receive learning and support in compliance with their Education, Health and Care Plans

· Ensure that the curriculum delivered matches the individual needs of all students

· Achieve a sense of harmony, through the effective management of student behaviour and attitudes to learning

· Involve students in the decision-making processes in the school by developing policies and practices that treat students as partners in the learning process

· Contribute to the management of pastoral care, student welfare and anti-bullying procedures effectively

· Maintain effective assessment, recording and reporting systems of student progress, ensuring evidence is appropriate for supporting improvements and for Ofsted

· Maintain high expectations

· Monitor and evaluate the curriculum for both quality and value for money

· Ensure high levels of consistent student attendance to enable learning

Leading and managing staff

The Deputy Head teacher will:

· Contribute on the recruitment and selection of teaching and support staff

· Exercise effective staff management, lead and motivate others and generate effective working relationships at all levels

· Optimise the contribution of all staff to ensure excellent quality of education and learning to improve the quality of education

· Contribute to performance management, ensuring the professional development of staff

· Create and maintain good working relationships among all members of the School community

· Promote the school ethos in which the highest achievements are expected from all members of the school community

Efficient and effective use of staff resource

The Deputy Head teacher will:

· Work with the Head teacher on the formulation of the annual budget in order that the school secures its objectives

· Contribute to the Planning, managing and monitoring of the curriculum within the agreed budget, setting appropriate priorities for expenditure, allocating funds and ensuring effective administration and control

· Ensure effective use of pupil premium and other funding streams, to ensure impact on learning and achievement

· coordinate and organise accommodation efficiently and effectively to ensure that it meets the needs of the curriculum and health and safety requirements

· Ensure that the allocation and use of accommodation provides a positive learning environment that promotes the highest achievement for all

· Contribute to Monitoring and evaluating overall provision for value for money

· Seek to ensure adequate resources for the school

Accountability

The Deputy Head teacher will:

· Work closely with and the senior management team and report to the Head Teacher

· Secure a positive working relationship with the directors

· Provide information, objective advice and support to the company SLT to enable it to meet its statutory responsibilities

· Through the senior management team present a coherent and accurate account of the school’s performance in a form appropriate to a range of audiences, including parents/carers and students

· Ensure that parents and students are well informed about curriculum attainment and progress and are able to understand targets for improvement

· Develop and encourage good relations between the school and the local community

· Work with other schools and partners, locally, nationally and internationally, as appropriate

The Deputy Head Teacher will complete NPQH as part of the role if not already in place.
