We have an exciting opportunity for a enthusiastic and qualified Occupational Therapist, to join our dynamic, expanding, multi-disciplinary team of clinicians in the North West. The role will be based at Olsen House School in Crosby, Liverpool.

The school is registered as an independent day school for children with social, emotional and mental health problems and / or who may be on the autistic spectrum. The school is registered for up to 55 children.

Our focus is to provide trauma-informed care and education, where all of young people's needs are considered and supported holistically to provide the best possible individual outcomes.

Job Title: Specialist Occupational Therapist

Location: Olsen House School

Reports to: Lead Occupational Therapist

Hours of work: Part Time (3 days per week) Term Time

Salary: £35,000 per annum (pro rata for 3 days per week TTO)

Purpose of the Post:

To be a key member of a skilled clinical team, providing a high quality, evidence based and child centred therapy service.

To hold a clinical case load and practice clinically, setting priorities and working autonomously

To influence therapy planning and service development within an allocated area of special responsibility, in line with current research and nationally identified policy.

To ensure that all practice is in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.

To work with families, carers, educators and appropriate external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to therapeutic support

To provide training and consultancy to families, Olsen House staff and, where appropriate, to staff in other Kedleston Group services.

Nature of the Post

Olsen House School is a specialist day school for children and young people aged 7 to 16 years. The school team provide support to all the young people living with social emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism (ASC), communication and sensory difficulties, attachment difficulties, childhood trauma and moderate learning difficulties (MLD) towards achieving excellent outcomes in preparing for adulthood.

The attachment aware and trauma informed school supports young people who have suffered adverse childhood experiences. In the dedicated autism specific provision, 'Bluebird', the environment and teaching approaches are also tailored to ensure those with an autism diagnosis can thrive.

The post holder will be a member of the Olsen House School team, working across both SEMH and Autism. They may also be required to work with and support the small team involved in supporting the development and delivery of the outreach service which is an extension of the Olsen House ‘offer’.

The main duties will be carried out whilst working 24 hours per week which can be worked flexibly in agreement with the Head Teacher. The role is term time only.

The post holder will manage their own caseload and be expected to work flexibly, providing occupational therapy services to children according to clinical need and in close liaison with the school’s leadership team and other clinicians. They will also be expected to actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings, staff meetings, supervision, training and annual appraisals.

The Occupational Therapy Team Lead who is based elsewhere in the North West guides and supports the work of all members of the Occupational Therapy Team; providing supervision in accordance with the Kedleston Group policy.

All staff are expected to work in a flexible way and additional tasks that have not been covered in the job description may have to be undertaken, depending on clinical need.

As part of the Kedleston Group staff team the post holder will be expected to participate in the life of the school and support the ethos of the Group and Olsen House School. In respect of the general responsibilities as an employee, the post holder will be required to:

Be aware of and follow the relevant policies, procedures and legislation at all times.

Co-operate with all Kedleston Group staff in maintaining harmonious interpersonal relations.

Perform any duties as may reasonably be required by the Kedleston Group or as requested by the post holder’s line manager and other senior managers.
