Careers Leader - Arc School Old Arley

Full time role (41 hrs/week)

The careers leader will take lead responsibility and accountability for the delivery of our school’s programme of careers advice and guidance, leading colleagues, making decisions, and enacting reforms to ensure that the school meets the Gatsby Benchmarks by the end of 2020.

Your role will see you undertake these core responsibilities: 

  • Review and evaluate careers guidance and provide information for school improvement planning, Ofsted and other purposes
  • Advise the senior leadership team on policy, strategy and resources for careers guidance and showing how they meet the Gatsby Benchmarks
  • Lead the team of teachers, administrators, external partners and others who deliver careers guidance
  • Establish and develop links with further education colleges, apprenticeship providers, university technical colleges, universities and employers
  • Refer pupils to careers advisers and coordinate encounters with employers and work experience
  • Secure funding for careers related projects
  • Negotiate a service level agreement with the local authority and commission careers guidance

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a school supporting children with SEN 
  • Successful leadership and management experience in a school or other relevant organisation
  • Expert knowledge of legislation and guidance on careers, including the Gatsby Benchmarks
  • Awareness of local and national organisations that can provide support with delivering a careers programme
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to build successful relationships with a variety of stakeholders

Arc School Old Arley is part of the Kedleston Group and opened in 2015.

We are an independent special day school situated within a rural village near Nuneaton, affording children and young people, aged between 7 and 16, the opportunity to take part in a range of activities within the local community.  The spacious school environment is bright and welcoming with a variety of different learning spaces inside and outside

Our school has a particular focus on taking learning outside the classroom into the grounds and community beyond and working in partnership with other organisations to enrich opportunities for children and young people.

Our school provides a safe learning environment for children and young people with a wide range of varying needs including social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), autism (ASC), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attachment difficulties (AD).

The spacious school environment is bright and welcoming with a variety of different learning spaces inside and outside.

Our mission is to develop confident and capable individuals by meeting their educational, health and social needs in a structured, nurturing school.  We aim to equip all children and young people with the necessary life skills, academic or vocational qualifications and emotional intelligence to succeed in life.
