Leaways School is seeking to appoint an IT Teacher

Leaways School provides a safe learning environment for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties including autism and an EHC Plan. We also have a separate specialist area to support young people on the autistic spectrum (ASC) and a Primary unit taking children from 7 years old.  We aim to offer as close to a mainstream experience as possible but provide the additional care and support needed around each young person to enable them to thrive. Our mission aims to engage children and young people by: Rewarding positive achievement, behaviour and academic success;
Providing children and young people with essential life skills in preparation for adulthood Create and maintain transparent relationships with children and young people, parents and professionals.

Main Duties include:

  • Deliver the curriculum to the age and ability group/subject/s that you are delegated to, adapting the curriculum to students with various needs including SEMH and ASC.
  • Be responsible for the preparation and development of teaching materials, teaching programmes and pastoral arrangements as appropriate
  • Be accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of pupils’ you teach
  • Be aware of pupils’ capabilities, their prior knowledge and plan teaching and differentiate appropriately to build on these demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn
  • Have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs; gifted and talented; EAL; disabilities; and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy including the correct use of spoken English (whatever your specialist subject)
  • If teaching early reading, demonstrate a clear understanding of appropriate teaching strategies e.g., systematic synthetic phonics.
  • Use an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for setting challenging learning objectives for pupils of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions, monitoring learners’ progress and levels of attainment
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment to secure pupils’ progress
  • Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback, reflect on progress, their emerging needs and to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study
  • Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons
  • Set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy including the correct use of spoken English (whatever your specialist subject)
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment to secure pupils’ progress
  • Establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly
  • Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to pupils’ needs in order to inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
  • Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified Teacher Status / or eligible to meet the national criteria for QTS
  • Qualification to the equivalent of degree level in specialist subject or a related subject
  • Other relevant SEN qualification(s) (Desirable)
  • Successful experience of SEN teaching, preferably across all age ranges
  • A good classroom practitioner with evidence of setting appropriate expectations to advance learning and to engage and motivate students
  • Ability to use appropriately a range of differentiated teaching and learning strategies for whole classes, individuals and groups which stimulate, challenge, engage and motivate students
  • Ability to set clear and appropriate targets, feedback to students and make use of assessment information to promote each student’s attainment and progress, and to plan future lessons
  • Ability to reflect on own practice, specialist knowledge and understanding
  • Ability to make good use of ICT as a teaching and learning resource and for professional practice
  • Knowledge of how to give positive and targeted support to students with special educational needs
  • Determination to encourage the highest quality of learning experience for all students
  • Commitment to equal opportunities

  • Ability to communicate effectively to staff, students and parents, both verbally and in writing
