Silverways School is seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant for students with ASC.

Silverways School in Enfield is a welcoming and nurturing school which provides first class education for up to 50 children aged between 7 and 16, in small classes, where the curriculum is designed and delivered according to needs of the learners. We help children re-engage with education by providing a safe, low arousal environment and a team of outstanding teachers and support staff with a proven track record of successfully teaching children who struggle to cope in school.

The teaching assistant is required to carry out specific educational work with individual or small groups of students within a classroom setting under the direction of the teacher.  Teaching assistants work alongside teachers in class.

Teaching assistants also contribute to pastoral care, acting as ‘mentors’ or ‘key workers’ for students who need additional support, especially during their transition into school and during difficult times.

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To support classroom teachers in the delivery of classroom lessons and related educational activities so that students make expected or better progress academically, socially and emotionally.
  • To promote the interests and ensure the safety and well-being of students in accordance with good practice and the policies and procedures of the school
  • To manage delegated tasks at Silverways, as defined by senior staff.
  • To represent Kedleston and the school positively at all times by reflecting its mission statement, core philosophy and ethos and by reflecting good educational practice.
  • To support, encourage and motivate individual students (or very small groups of students) working on learning tasks and activities, set by the teacher in accordance with the aims of the lesson and the Individual Education Plans.
  • To support the teacher in the organization of the class, undertaking and recording of baseline assessments for new students.
  • To prepare teaching resources as directed by the teacher and ensure these are available when required by the teacher.
  • To assist the teacher in preparing and presenting displays of students’ work.
  • To assist the teacher in the maintenance of the daily attendance register.
