Leaways school provides a safe learning environment for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties including autism and an EHC Plan. We aim to offer as close to a mainstream experience as possible but provide the additional care and support needed around each young person to enable them to thrive. Key Accountabilities

• To schedule and organise annual reviews and complete EHCP paperwork in a timely way.

• Ensure that every EHCP is regularly reviewed.

• Communicate with external stakeholders – LAs, schools, therapists, social services, transport, and contractors.

• Accurately record any new EHCPs and support the response consultation process.

• Gather information such as specialist reports to contribute to updating EHCPs.

• Attend multidisciplinary meetings.

• In collaboration with the SENCO, support staff to understand the legal implications of an EHCP.

• Communicate regularly with parents and students to support teachers so they can plan for the high pastoral requirement.

• Set high standards and expectations for quality annual review processes. Ensure these are communicated with all staff.

• Ensure annual reviews are person centred and where possible students are supported to be involved in fully in the process.

• Liaise with LAs and social workers to ensure progress reviews are attended.

• In collaboration with the SENCO, help train and update teaching staff on latest SEND legislation for progress review process.

• Be the main point of contact for local authorities to receive and respond to EHCP consultations.

• Organise and lead on EHCP panel meetings, with support from the SENCO, to gain clarification on appropriate EHCP responses.

• To demonstrate professional behaviour and appearance at all times

• To safeguard the welfare of children, young persons and other vulnerable people for whom you come into contact with, ensuring a learning environment where students feel safe and supported, and British values are celebrated

• To be accountable for own safety and that of colleagues/ visitors to the workplace.

• To work in a flexible manner and be willing to undertake other duties as reasonably requested

• To be the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) assisting the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in all matters of safeguarding and child protection across the school.

• Advise and support other members of staff on child welfare and child protection matters, and liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.

• Support DSL in referring cases of suspected abuse to the local authority children’s social care.

• Support DSL in referring cases to the Disclosure and Barring Service where a person is dismissed or left due to risk or harm to a child.

• Support DSL in referring cases where a crime may have been committed to the police.

• Keep detailed, accurate and secure written records of concerns and referrals.

• Support the DSL in ensuring staff can access and understand the school’s child protection and safeguarding policy and procedures (especially new and part time staff).

• Inform the DSL (and Headteacher in their absence) of safeguarding issues, especially ongoing enquiries into whether a child is at risk of harm, and police investigations.

• Support the DSL in liaising with the case manager and the local authority’s designated officer for child protection concerns in all cases where a member of school staff is involved.

• Act as a source of support, advice and expertise for staff.

• Understand the assessment process for providing early help and intervention.

• Develop a working knowledge of how local authorities conduct a child protection case conference and a child protection review conference.

• Support the DSL when required by attending and contributing to child protection case conferences effectively when required to do so.

• To cover reception as required
