Wings School Notts provide education and care for children and young people aged 9 to 17 years with social and emotional mental health needs, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, dyspraxia, attachment needs, childhood trauma or other specific learning difficulties. Curriculums are individually developed around the child or young person in order for them to achieve success and gain the skills and qualifications needed for them to move on to the next phase of their life.
This weekend, four young people in Year 11 from Wings School Notts attended a West Notts College open event.
The event was for children and young people aged 16+ who are looking for further education options after they finish school. West Notts College offer a range of opportunities from A Levels, to BTECs and apprenticeships. The young people who went were able to have 1:1 advice on their chosen college courses of interest such as Childcare, Art and Design and Hair and Beauty. They were able to speak with the tutors to get greater insight into the course content, timetabling and college life.
One young person from Wings School Notts who is interested in the Art and Design course had the opportunity to speak with the course tutor about how this course would help him in the future to become a tattoo artist.
Those interested in Childcare were able to speak to the students currently enrolled on the course and to get a first-hand account of how college life would be.
Two who attended on Saturday have the possibility of attending West Notts College in September 2020 studying Childcare. They are both very excited about the prospect of attending and one stated to a member of staff that “the girls who did the talk for the childcare course seemed really nice and I think I will really enjoy the course”.
Another young person is also very keen to attend the college and is meeting with the schools onsite Career advisor to apply for the Childcare course this week. The schools Career advisor is organising a private tour of the West Notts College Campus so the young people can get an additional opportunity to find out more about life at the college and to discover more of the fantastic facilities.
The feedback from the college event was extremely positive and all young people engaged really well with the event.
What a brilliant opportunity, sounds like everyone took full advantage of it!
