Let’s hear from a parent from our Arc Oakbridge School who talks about their child’s experiences and journey from strength to strength.

 “I just wanted to take time to say a few words about my child’s journey at Arc Oakbridge School.

My child had a very traumatic experience in his previous mainstream school which resulted in him sadly school refusing.  He was unable to interact with the children in his class due to the high levels of anxiety he was experiencing. It was a very difficult and challenging time for us all.

Let’s fast forward to his journey at Arc Oakbridge School. The first few months he struggled to transition. He was extremely anxious and scared. Although he was on ‘high alert’ he built up a brilliant rapport with members of the team and his peers.

After the first few weeks of being in his new class, something changed. He seemed calmer and was accepting of change. He started to build a relationship with the other children and his hours in school increased.

He has gone from strength to strength. He is currently doing 4 full days and leaves after lunch on a Friday.

My child who was previously crippled with anxiety upon entering the school doors now runs into Arc Oakbridge sometimes forgetting to say ‘bye’. He stays in school out of choice because he feels happy and safe.

He now eats in school. He has made friends within his class group and is very fond of them. He also has a brilliant relationship with his teacher.

He had spent 2 years hiding in a corner, colouring sheets and not doing any schoolwork. Most school work was scrunched up and binned. That same child is now engaging in his lessons and enjoying school. What a great nurturing, environment you have. It just goes to show what the right environment can do for a child.

He also now plays outside. He actually plays. He’s writing and he’s sharing his feelings.

The biggest gift Arc Oakbridge School has given us is that he smiles. My son smiles. He had lost his smile and spent too long hiding behind his hair. Whilst being at Arc Oakbridge School he has even managed to have his hair cut.

I have seen so many changes in my son since he started Arc Oakbridge School. Things that would’ve previously thrown him off course, he is now handling very well. He is able to articulate himself and turn to his teacher when he needs her.

This has resulted in a much happier child.
