Arc School Napton is an independent specialist primary school based in a small village in Warwickshire, registered for children between the ages of 5 to 11. Children come to the school because the environment they provide benefits children whose specific educational and social, and or emotional needs cannot be met in mainstream environments.
The school supports children with a wide range of educational and social needs, including those associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, attachment disorder, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia and social emotional and mental health difficulties.
The staff team have worked with children experiencing emotionally based school avoidance and can support children back into school using a therapeutic approach and a gradual introduction to the school environment. The school is small, nurturing and enabling.
The curriculum is designed to meet the individual needs of each child so they have the opportunity to meet their full potential, in an environment which is both therapeutic and supportive.
Children can enjoy a diverse range of sports as part of the teaching at Napton, including tennis lessons and participate in traditional PE curriculum subjects. There is also the opportunity for all of the children to attend Forest School sessions where they can develop the skills to play, turn take, share, collaborate and plan, largely independent of the focused adult support they may previously have needed.
The admission procedure is child centred and takes whatever form is needed to help make the child comfortable.
The school currently has input from a Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist and a team of Educational Psychologists. The focus of any therapeutic support is to help the children to reach their learning potential and give them the best opportunities to develop skills for secondary school.
At Arc School Napton we use Sleuth to analyse and record behaviour and development of our pupils. This software sits alongside our own assessment framework that can measure the progress of our pupils in relation to the essential skills.
