ASDAN qualifications were awarded to the children and young people at Wings School Notts during the recent lockdown. ASDAN is an awarding organisation whose curriculum programmes and qualifications help young people develop knowledge and skills for learning, work and life.
By working towards ASDAN awards it has allowed Wings School Notts to continue teaching across the board without requiring subject specific teachers. There is the option to follow the Bronze, Silver or Gold course which allows the children to gain qualifications over a certain amount of hours. Through completing this course the children have been able to gain valuable skills in social communication, the environment, health and safety as well as boost their Maths and English attainment levels.
The courses have been imperative in developing and demonstrating a range of personal, social and employability skills. The course broadens the children’s experiences, instils confidence and enables them to gain a knowledge of real life activities which in turn will help the children become well-rounded members of society.
In the next academic year the school will be offering short ASDAN courses in Science for Key stage 3 children, as well as History and Geography across all levels and ages. The Outdoor Education Team will be also be introducing Gardening, Land-based Studies and Animal care. The ASDAN course and curriculum transforms life chances through learning and is a brilliant new opportunity for the children at Wings!
