Staff at Wings School Notts have completed introductory training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy with Adolescents with the clinical team. The course is designed by the Association of Psychological Therapies (APT) and participants can also apply for accreditation with APT now they have completed the course.
Four members of the Education team and a member of the Care team learnt about practical strategies to introduce to young people in our care. From September 2021, Wings School Notts Education staff will be delivering DBT-informed skills as part of the school curriculum to a number of classes. These sessions will be co-delivered with the clinical team and will support skill development in the following areas:
- Mindfulness – skills to increase self-awareness and attentional focus
- Distress Tolerance – skills to help manage strong and overwhelming emotions
- Emotional Regulation – skills to increase emotional awareness and reduce intensity of unwanted emotions.
- Interpersonal effectiveness – skills to manage relationship and communicate effectively
Well done to all that took part!
