Autism School in Enfield, London

Silverways School in Enfield provides specialist support for children with autism and associated needs in a carefully designed environment.

Our welcoming and nurturing school provides a first class education for up to 50 children aged between seven and 16, in small classes, where the curriculum is designed and delivered according to needs of the learners.

Many of the children at Silverways have found mainstream education challenging and in some circumstances traumatic. Some children will have been out of education or have significant gaps in their attendance before joining Silverways. We help children re-engage with education by providing a safe, low arousal environment and a team of outstanding teachers and support staff with a proven track record of successfully teaching children who struggle to cope in school.

Our specially-designed environment has been developed to accommodate children’s sensory needs and create the best setting for them to learn and achieve their potential.

What can Silverways School offer?

  • A specially designed learning environment created to meet sensory needs.
  • A low arousal and nurturing safe place where children can learn and grow.
  • Small class sizes of no more than six children.
  • Each class is supported by a teacher and a teaching assistant.
  • Classrooms will be ‘enabling environments’ with sensory lighting, muted colours, individual workstations and visual timetables.

At Silverways we value the holistic development of the child. Importance is given to developing the children’s social skills, self-confidence, character and resilience as well as following the National Curriculum. Opportunities to acquire life skills are embedded throughout their time at Silverways.

The school offers children opportunities to learn outside the classroom, making good use of the sensory circuit in the playground as well as accessing local facilities. Silverways School has close connections with St Andrews Church and has been built on church land.  The school will equip children for adulthood and prepare them for the world of work and college, through access to career services, work experience and access to further education.

The school is supported by a clinical team, including Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy embedded within the school day.

Through close partnerships with families, professionals and the wider community, Silverways School ensures children who attend the school can thrive and make good progress.

  • "I have just finished reading the Silverways School Welcome Pack. I must say that it is extremely well put together. In fact it was exciting to read and look through the images. I really enjoyed it. The pack is so user friendly, easy to understand, clear and concise. I like that the school put in personal touches such as a water bottle, a pen and postcards. It was very endearing. Thanks to all those that contributed."
