Kitchen Assistant: 27.5 hours per week 9.00am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday.

High Peak School is a residential school providing 52 week provision for young people aged 7 to 18 years with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and we are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to join us as a Kitchen and Cleaning Assistant. The role will be to prepare, cook and serve food under the direction of the School Chef in accordance with defined hygiene standards and to keep the kitchen and dining area clean. Also to support the Housekeeping team with cleaning when needed to support colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the School Chef prepare, cook and serve food to meet the specifications as defined by the school. To include meeting the meal requirements of the staff and students and any special, emergency and function catering.
  • To work alongside any other domestic staff ensuring that the agreed standards and targets are maintained.
  • To meet all statutory requirements for Ofsted and Local Authority Hygiene inspections
  • To promote and participate in a positive approach to Health and Safety in the delivery of all High Peak School catering operations
  • Promote effective waste management within the dining room and kitchen.
  • Washing-up of all items used in the kitchen area and maintaining cooking and storage areas in a clean and tidy state in line with cleaning schedules.
  • Cleaning the dining area to a high standard
  • Storing safely all cleaning materials at the end of the duty period in the appropriate storage facility.
  • Participating in thorough ‘Spring Cleaning’ of allocated areas during School holidays.
  • Adhering to good health and hygiene practices.
  • Participating in arrangements for your induction, supervision, training and development.
  • Undertaking any qualifications deemed necessary by the Principal/ Registered Manager to fulfil the requirements of the post.

Person Specification:

  • Experience previously in a kitchen role
  • Hard working and flexible attitude
  • Organised approach
