English Teacher (maternity cover for one year)

Old Arley, Warwickshire

The Lead Teacher for English at Arc School Old Arley will take responsibility for the overall provision of the English curriculum at the school.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and take responsibility for developing a curriculum that provides pupils with a range of opportunities and the skills they need to prepare for later life.
  • Be accountable for the strategic leadership and management across the English curriculum area, developing and implementing plans, policies, targets and practices within the context of the school’s aims and policies.
  • Develop and implement the schemes of work for English at key stage 2, 3 and 4.
  • Comply with school policies and procedures, in particular those relating to the wellbeing and safeguarding of children.
  • Curriculum development including constructing a curriculum that is ambitious and designed to provide all pupils with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in later life.
  • Strategic development including coordinate the production, implementation and evaluation of departmental policies and documents, ensuring these are in line with whole-school policies and procedures.
  • Manage existing resources within an agreed budget, ensuring that these are distributed effectively and all staff are familiar with these.
  • Implement and develop key initiatives across the school as required, and act in accordance with relevant school policies at all times.
  • Carry out class teaching duties as agreed.
  • Ensure pupils’ understanding of the curriculum is checked systematically, misconceptions are identified accurately and provide feedback is clear and direct.

Arc School Old Arley is part of the Kedleston Group and opened in 2015. We are an independent special day school situated within a rural village near Nuneaton, affording children and young people, aged between 7 and 16, the opportunity to take part in a range of activities within the local community.  The spacious school environment is bright and welcoming with a variety of different learning spaces inside and outside.

Our school has a particular focus on taking learning outside the classroom into the grounds and community beyond and working in partnership with other organisations to enrich opportunities for children and young people.

Our school provides a safe learning environment for children and young people with a wide range of varying needs including social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), autism (ASC), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attachment difficulties (AD).
