In the spirit of VE day, the bunting is home-made and everyone at Wings School Cumbria has been ‘digging for victory’ in the allotment. On the day they will be listening to 1940’s music whilst sampling scones with jam and cream and Victoria sponge cake.
The children have been watching films and discussing Colonel Tom’s role in the war and commenting on how really it wasn’t that long ago!
Victory in Europe (VE) Day on 8th May 1945 saw Britain and its Allies formally accept Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender after almost six years of war. At 15:00, Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany's surrender the day before. Spontaneous celebrations broke out across the country.
Wings Cumbria have also been supporting some of their local hero’s on VE day by delivering Victoria sponge cakes, scones with jam and cream and beautifully VE day decorated fairy cakes.
Thank you to the police, the local paramedic team and Milnthorpe Primary School who are open and working hard for keyworker children.
We hope Wings School Cumbria have a wonderful day joining in with celebrations today across the country to commemorate the occasion.
