Kedleston Group is proud to announce the launch of a brand-new residential children’s home in Buxton, Derbyshire which will support young people to reach their full potential.

Kedleston currently operate 13 schools, residential schools and residential children’s homes throughout England. We are expanding our care offering through discussions with Local Authorities for the increasing need for specialist homes to support young people who may have experienced adverse childhood experiences and trauma.

Dovedale House is a modern and comfortable detached property set in a residential street approximately 10 minutes-walk from the centre of Buxton. It has five bedrooms and a spacious communal living space which promotes interaction and inclusion among both staff and children.

The home will provide a safe, nurturing and welcoming home for young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and associated needs such as autism/learning disability.

Dovedale House will be a home for up to 5 children (mixed), from the ages of 12 to 17. The team will support children to access education via local mainstream schools or specialist schools and ultimately prepare them for adulthood. The home will offer a clear programme of support, from budgeting to independent travel training, self-care and self-medication for example. We will support children to complete appropriate qualifications to enable them to go on to apprenticeships, further education or employment.

For children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) there will be the opportunity to attend High Peak School, a Kedleston Group specialist school. The school curriculum is designed to give children a wide and varied range of learning experiences to develop their academic, social and emotional ability in both familiar and new environments. Young people would enjoy access to an extensive range of imaginative learning opportunities which capture and sustain their interest such as forest school, bush craft and creative media.

Each child at Dovedale House will engage in an extensive life skills programme, enabling them to learn the skills they will require to support independence in the long term alongside their school curriculum. This will be supported by a range of clinical inputs including OT, SaLT, and Clinical Psychology. Using a therapeutic, supportive and consistent approach children are supported to address their feelings and emotions in a safe environment.

Through close partnerships with families, Local Authorities, professionals and the wider community, the team at Whycotes will ensure that the children meet their full potential and flourish. Where possible we will work with families, young people and professionals to enable children to return home to family living.

“Our Step Down to Family Living Model has been created alongside children, families, clinicians, professionals, commissioners and a national fostering agency to make sure we have the views and experiences of all the key people in the process, to create something which has the child’s best interests at its core."
