This has proved to be a testing and difficult time for many, with vital support services suspended or drastically reduced for many young people. With the assistance of Microsoft TEAMS our Wings School Cumbria has continued to provide weekly therapeutic support for the children and young people.
Nicola Kennelly, Clinical Psychologist at Wings School Cumbria, has been able to carry out new assessments, continue therapy sessions, manage risks with wider services, and attend and co-ordinate virtual meetings. She has recently sent across some treats and some colourful hearts wishing “care, strength and hope over lockdown and beyond” to show everyone how much she is missing the face to face contact.
Despite the distance, Nicola has found that the quality of work has been maintained and/or improved in some areas. She has valued staff input when accompanying young people to virtual sessions, really strengthening both the therapy and the onsite support. Nicola has also been able to reach parents who may otherwise have been working, which has helped with the life story work completed at Wings School Cumbria.
It has been a really successful whole school team approach although Nicola is now looking forward to resuming face to face sessions soon.
