Wings School Cumbria has worked with charities within the local village for several years now, which is where they first learnt about Derian House and the support and care they offer to children, young people and their families across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Derian House help children and young people, whose lives are too short, to make happy memories in an environment of fun, respect and above all, high quality care.
The hospice provides respite and end-of-life care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.
This year’s money raising projects at Wings Cumbria have centred around the on-site farm and gardens where the young people have sold the vegetables they have grown, the eggs they have picked from the hen’s they have hatched and the sausages from their own organically reared pigs. They have finished the year with a giant Christmas raffle which will be drawn next week.
A big thank you to Mike Faulkner who initially set up the farm project at Wings Cumbria and Genevieve Spencer for organising the raffle. A second thank you to the young people at Wings who help every day to make sure our animals are fed and watered, clean and well cared for. And a final thanks to all of the staff and young people’s support in buying the produce and raffle tickets, the donations are invaluable.
