At our Wings School Cumbria, all of the young people follow a personalised curriculum designed to ensure that they make the best possible progress in all aspects of their social, emotional, communication, interaction and learning development. Opportunities for each young person are specifically designed to support them to work towards the outcomes identified in their Education and Health Care Plan.
Each young person is supported to achieve a range of qualifications to enable them to take the next step in their education, to pursue their chosen career and to become an independent adult.
For two of the young people at Wings Cumbria, it was identified they had a talent for sports, in particular football, so being able to access a Sports Coaching course at Lancaster and Morecambe College in Lancashire has been invaluable. On college days both young people do not need any encouragement to be ready on time, they are enthusiastic to learn, to become involved and really enjoy the independence and maturity of college life.
We have received some wonderful feedback from the tutors at Lancaster and Morecambe College and we could not be prouder!
"He has made a tremendous start to this academic year. He has completed all work in the classroom to a high standard and shown great maturity to work independently with little use of his support worker. The work he has produced shows me he is more than capable of progressing into mainstream next academic year at college with ease."
"He has also made terrific progress with the College Football Academy and has a real opportunity to progress to a Full Level 2 course in mainstream Sport area, the Academy Tutor has stated he would be more than happy to enrol him on the course in September. He has really proven that college is the right place for him."
'"He has been superb in the sessions and has produced some excellent independent research work."
"He has developed good working relationships with his peers in the class and growing in confidence each session. I believe he is capable of progressing next year as well within mainstream or aspire department.”
A massive well done to you both!
