Children and young people from Olsen House School this week have enjoyed making Paracord keyrings as part of their Golden time. They have made them for their own bags or keys or for their parents/ carers while some are choosing to keep them as lovely homemade Christmas presents. Everyone has shown great determination in mastering the method and have commented that they found it really relaxing.
Golden Time is also known as Choice Time across the school. It is a behavioural system at the school which was put in place through the student council.
The children and young people use their weekly points to access a tiered system of reward clubs including art, games, film, computer, messy play, sensory, hair and beauty and sport. There are great benefits in attending clubs like these to boost social skills and confidence and encourage the young people to socialise outside their peer groups.
To maximise opportunities for children and young people at Olsen House School education and support are provided in very small class sizes. The school follows the National Curriculum where appropriate and each young person has their own tailored timetable designed to take into account individual educational and learning needs. Children and young people enjoy studying for a wide range of qualifications including Functional skills, GCSE’s and BTEC, there is also a high emphasis on learning outside the classroom e.g. Duke of Edinburgh and Forest Schools.
Well done to everyone for their fantastic work throughout the school this week.
