High Peak School is seeking to appoint an English ASC Teacher.
High Peak School is set on the border of Cheshire East and the Peak District and provides specialist primary and secondary education for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, individuals on the autism spectrum and young people with ADHD, dyspraxia and dyslexia. Our specialist multi-disciplinary team of leaders, carers, therapists and educationalists work seamlessly together. They teach and proactively support children who have been subjected to adverse childhood experiences, including trauma, toxic stress and associated mental wellbeing difficulties, aiming to break the cycle of adversity. The environment and teaching approaches are bespoke and tailored to ensure our children and young people thrive and can develop their self-esteem. Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons taking reasonable responsibility for subject development and over sight.
- Teaching, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupils in School and elsewhere.
- Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils.
- Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group of pupils assigned to him / her.
- Providing guidance and advice to pupils on educational and social matters and on their further education and future careers, including information about sources of more expert advice on specific questions; making relevant records and reports.
- Making records of, and reports on, the personal and social needs of pupils.
- Communicating and consulting with the parents of pupils.
- Communicating and co-operating with persons or bodies outside the School.
- Participating in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above.
- Contributing to the selection for appointment and professional development of other teachers and non-teaching staff, including the Induction and assessment of new teachers and teachers serving Induction periods.
- Assisting the Head Teacher or an Assessor in carrying out threshold assessments of other teachers for whom he / she has management responsibility.
- Co-ordinating or managing the work of other teachers.
- Taking such part as may be required of him / her in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the School.
- Participating in the safeguarding of all the children and ensuring that High Peak School Child Protection Policy is adhered to.
Essential Criteria includes:
- Teaching Degree or equivalent
- Qualified teacher status (or working towards)
- Must have Maths and English GCSE at grades 9 to 4 (A*-C), or equivalent.
- Will have teaching experience including working with children with challenging behaviour, whether in a mainstream or special needs setting
- Minimum of 2 years teaching experience delivering the English National Curriculum.
- Must be able to teach English at KS3 and KS4.
- Experience of using the TEACCH approach
- A sound knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum and an understanding of the latest developments in their subject area
- Knowledge and understanding of legislation with regards to the SEND Code of Practice and awareness of current SEND requirements
