Wings School Notts is seeking to appoint a Primary School Teacher.

Kedleston Group Ltd is an independent provider of SEMH day and residential schools as well as children’s homes across England. Our dedicated autism (ASC) schools work with young people who are high functioning and have associated needs such as mental health problems, attention deficit hyperactive disorder and learning difficulties. We offer staff a comprehensive induction programme and ongoing training to ensure everyone is provided with the best possible start to their employment. Main Roles and Responsibilities:

We have an excellent opportunity for a SEMH / SEN Primary School Teacher (KS2 & KS3 and less able KS4) in a secondary setting to join Wings School Notts. Working alongside the Head of Education and Deputy Head, you will demonstrate a clear understanding of the challenges of delivering consistent, high- quality learning opportunities.

The school offers a balance of academic studies, physical and outdoor education, vocational studies, and personalised curriculums. The children are taught in small groups or on a one to one basis with the SEN team and learning mentors.

You will use the ARC model of attachment and trauma informed practice model in a pro-active way, to help and support the children who come from backgrounds of Adverse Childhood Experiences. As one of our SEMH / SEN Primary School Teachers, you would be expected to ensure that all children and young people within your care are secure and receiving the best possible educational provision and outcomes.

As the SEMH / SEN Primary School Teacher in a secondary setting, you will have a sound knowledge of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage, KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4 curriculums, excellent communication skills, a commitment to inclusive practice and can work within a multi-disciplinary team. You will also contribute to an integrated model of care and school development plan, whist supporting the pupils, recognising, and responding to their individual needs.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of differentiation and be flexible to work with and take responsibility for a small group of students working at a mixture of upper KS2 and lower KS3/KS4 learners, along with holding QTS Status.

Person Specification:

  • Primary specialist with phonics experience with an ability to teach across all Key Stages
  • Therapeutic teaching approach
  • Experience of teaching with emotional regulation and with positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies
  • DBT experience
  • Positive role model to support communication, with a sensitive, nurturing, and consistent approach
  • Experience with SEMH, Trauma, Sensory processing, social communication teaching background
  • Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with vulnerable students
  • Experience of working with disengaged young people is essential.
  • Teaching all areas of the primary curriculum
  • Taking responsibility for the progress of a class
  • Creating an outstanding, sensory, therapeutic classroom.
  • Organising the classroom and learning resources and creating displays to encourage a positive learning environment
  • Planning, preparing and presenting lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the class
  • Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation
  • Maintaining clear boundaries and expectations
  • Preparing and marking work to facilitate positive pupil development and progress
  • Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils' development
  • Providing feedback to parents and carers on a pupil's progress at parents' evenings and other meetings
  • Coordinating activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area
  • Working with others to plan and coordinate work
  • Keeping up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
  • To support pupil’s social and emotional development and promote independence in a safe, secure, challenging environment employing strategies to recognise and reward achievement.
  • To support the learning of individuals and groups of pupils through the provision of a well-being/intervention curriculum and to act as a role model, setting high expectations.
  • To focus on individual pupils to ensure their needs are being met within wellbeing interventions and the nurture/intervention group.
  • To encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others.
  • To observe, record and support the social and emotional development of pupils to identify individual needs and difficulties and to feed back to pupils in relation to their progress and achievement.
  • To promote the inclusion of all pupils within the school so that they can participate in all aspects of school life.
  • Organising the classroom and learning resources and creating displays to encourage a positive, welcoming and calming learning environment;
  • Planning, preparing and presenting lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the class;
  • Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation;
  • Teaching all areas of the primary curriculum;

To participate in pupils' emotional literacy development through conversation/associated up to date practices.

  • To monitor and evaluate pupil’s responses to activities in interventions through observation and planned recording of achievement against individual profile targets.
