Children and young people from our Wings Cumbria have been doing volunteer work at Haybridge Nature Reserve. Children have been helping to repair a set of steps in the reserve for the Wardens, using skills they have learnt on-site in Conservation and Horticulture lessons.
Haybridge is in the Rusland Valley and is home to a large number of Red Deer and lots other animals. As it is the middle of the Red Deer Rut when Stags fight for dominance over the female deer, the Stags' roars can be heard echoing around the valley. The children were lucky enough to be given a tour around the Deer Museum by the Warden and in the coming weeks we will hopefully be able to observe these deer out in the open.
