Our new Food Technology classroom has been so well received, that the teacher, Mr Dodds, now runs an evening class for the young people at Wings Cumbria.
The pupils have been enjoying learning the basics of making meals from scratch and often want to practice the skills they’ve learned in the classroom. They have created dishes from stir fries to curries, and pancakes to brownies!
Working with ingredients and recipes supports learning in other subjects, such as maths, science, and English. We have also been learning about different cultures and their cuisines.
As well as teaching those all-important life skills, the new Food Technology room means that we’re able to offer formal Open Award qualifications, with the opportunity to study Catering at one of our local colleges in Years 10 and 11.
