Our Wings School Cumbria offers a caring and nurturing community setting and work with children who have been affected by social and emotional challenges.
How does it feel to work directly alongside the children and young people, supporting them towards brighter and meaningful futures? We checked in with a Wings Cumbria Key Worker to find out more...
“My role involves being a point of contact and support for the children and young people. I offer guidance, show empathy, talk through options and opportunities, and allow them to reflect following tough or testing experiences to make a positive change.
I have worked with one particular young person at Wings for over 5 years and have seen first-hand the difference and improvement throughout that time.
We have worked hard together to overcome the challenges he previously faced with his behaviour, and he has developed into a fantastic young man with fantastic prospects. It has been a delight to be part of this change.
It is especially satisfying to see him becoming part of the school community and take part in social activities such as school holidays.
We are extremely proud of him, and he is a credit to the school and himself.
Of course, working within the care team can be really demanding at times but for me personally, the honour of seeing the young people achieve and flourish far outweighs any testing times and is immensely rewarding.”
