Jeremiah* was a child in crisis when he arrived at Wings Cumbria. He was expressing his trauma, bereavement, loss, guilt and attachment challenges through his behaviour. His family relationships had broken down and he had been diagnosed with ADHD.
Building a trusted relationship with a key adult at Wings has made all the difference to Jeremiah, who has recently left to take up employment. He was supported positively to attend medical appointments and work with clinicians to make sure his medication was correct and appropriate.
Physical activity was also key for Jeremiah. He was supported to burn off his energy on long dog walks, hill walking and sports. That 1-1 time give him a chance to talk and for a key adult to simply be there and to listen to him. He excelled at sports, playing in teams both for school and locally. Academically too, Jeremiah achieved a range of different qualifications including GCSEs.
Because of his ADHD, Jeremiah struggled to make lasting friendships with children his age. Impulsive, he would upset people and not behave kindly or appropriately. However, the team worked with him on social relationships, firm boundaries and consistency and he has been able to better regulate his emotions and how he interacts with others.
Jeremiah has secured a job and is in a successful relationship with his partner. He has left Wings successfully and the team could not be more proud of his progress and achievements.
