Who we are
Wings School Cumbria is part of the Kedleston Group and opened in 2003.
We are an independent specialist school and children’s home nestled to the south of the glorious Lake District.
We work with young people who have been affected by social and emotional challenges. There is a strong sense of community at Wings Cumbria where all young people feel safe and nurtured so they can achieve their potential. There is a particular focus on outdoor learning which enables those children and young people who find working in a classroom difficult the opportunity to re-engage in their education and the school community.
Our highly skilled staff team always go the extra mile for every young person. The environment has excellent academic facilities but the sporting and pastoral facilities set the school apart as the leading provider in our field.
Many young people at our school lack resilience in terms of their learning and their social and emotional development. Small group teaching with support from a small number of consistent staff who are specifically trained/experienced in working with young people who have social and emotional needs, enables young people to develop positive relationships with adults. This supports them to learn about appropriate relationships and to extend their social and emotional skills. It also allows them to experience warm and positive relationships, which in turn helps them to feel good about themselves and to be become more resilient.
The Principal, other leaders and staff have created a happy, harmonious and deeply respectful school community which allows our children and young people to thrive.
