We were delighted to welcome MPs, councillors, community leaders and supporters to Oakbridge School as we officially opened our new home in Handsworth.
The special celebration marked an important milestone in our journey following our move from Birmingham city centre to our newly refurbished site, which has been transformed into a purpose-designed learning environment for autistic pupils and young people with additional needs.
The event brought together members of the local community, including MP Ayoub Khan, Councillor Randeep Kaur Kular and Councillor Narinder Kaur Kooner OBE, alongside representatives from the Guru Ravidass Community Centre, from whom Kedleston Group leases the building.
Guests enjoyed tours of the school, musical performances from our pupils and a programme of activities led by Alex Lenkowski, kicker and punter for the Manchester Titans and Great Britain Lions. Alex delivered a special assembly and introduced pupils and visitors to American Football through a series of fun sessions throughout the day.
The opening ceremony was particularly meaningful as Councillor Kaur Kooner returned to a building she once attended as a pupil when it was known as Handsworth School for Girls.
Our new school building has been extensively redeveloped to create a modern, accessible and inspiring environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. The facilities are designed to support the individual needs of every learner while providing exciting opportunities to develop confidence, independence and aspirations for the future.
