Year 11 BTEC Music Pupils Experience Professional Recording at Pirate Studios

Saturday, 10th October 2026, 08:26

Our Year 11 BTEC Music pupils recently enjoyed an exciting and inspiring visit to Pirate Studios, where they experienced life in a professional recording environment and developed their musical talents beyond the classroom.

The visit enabled pupils to strengthen their music production skills, explore professional recording techniques, and gain first-hand experience using industry-standard equipment. It also provided valuable insight into the creative industries and potential career pathways within music and media.

Throughout the session, pupils worked on composing, producing, and refining their own original music, which will contribute towards their BTEC coursework portfolios. Working in a professional studio encouraged creativity, independence, collaboration, and problem-solving, allowing pupils to apply the knowledge and skills developed in lessons.

Accompanied by Music and Media teacher Oscar Smith and Music Teaching Assistant Pharelle Smith, pupils received guidance and encouragement as they developed their individual projects and explored new creative ideas.

A special congratulations goes to Dylan B-G, Isaac S, and Charles H-V, who represented Leaways exceptionally well. Their outstanding behaviour, enthusiasm, and maturity throughout the visit were a real credit to the school.

Experiences like this bring learning to life, raise aspirations, and help pupils recognise how their talents can translate into future education and employment.

We are incredibly proud of our talented young musicians and look forward to hearing their completed projects!
