Pupils explored five creative themes, including Black Excellence, African-inspired patterns, the powerful message “I Have a Dream” and influential Black British role models. Each pupil was encouraged to create a unique design reflecting their own interests, experiences and understanding of Black history.
The project produced some wonderfully personal and meaningful designs. Ryan combined his passion for basketball with the inspirational words “I Have a Dream,” connecting his love of sport with a message of hope and equality.
In a particularly touching tribute, Lee chose Tim, his one-to-one Teaching Assistant, as his personal role model, recognising someone who has made a positive difference in his life. Other pupils explored symbols of freedom, peace and African-inspired prints, bringing together creativity and cultural appreciation.
Beyond developing artistic skills, the project encouraged pupils to celebrate individuality, reflect on the achievements of others and express their ideas with confidence.
The activity reflected our school ethos of Respect, Relate and Respond, demonstrating how art can bring people together and celebrate the diversity within our school community.
A huge well done to our Year 11 BTEC pupils, and thank you to Lex for inspiring such thoughtful and creative work.
At Leaways, we celebrate achievement, creativity and the individuality that makes every pupil special.
