Hawley Woods School
HampshireTherapy
We believe that every child deserves to feel understood, supported, and celebrated for who they are. That’s why therapy and interventions are woven into the very heart of school life, not added on. Our approach is rooted in the belief that when children feel emotionally safe and confident, they are better able to learn, make friends, and thrive.
Our dedicated therapy team work closely with teachers and families to make sure every child’s individual needs are met. Therapy at Hawley Woods is not limited to one-to-one sessions – it is embedded across the school day, in classrooms, during group activities, and even outdoors. From developing communication skills to building resilience, every strategy is designed to help children unlock their potential.
We are proud to offer a wide range of therapeutic support, from well-established practices such as Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT), to creative and engaging programmes like Lego Therapy, RelaxadoodleMe, and Sing Yourself BIG. These are complemented by social skills groups, specialist interventions like Fresh Start and Little Wandle phonics, and our much-loved animal companions who bring calm, connection, and joy to our school community.
Each child’s plan is personalised and carefully reviewed, ensuring that progress towards their EHCP targets and wider goals is meaningful and celebrated. Parents are part of the journey too — we share strategies, celebrate milestones, and work together so that the skills children build in school also shine at home and in their wider lives.
At Hawley Woods, therapy is not about “fixing” children — it’s about empowering them to understand themselves, develop confidence, and embrace their unique strengths. With the right tools, nurture, and encouragement, our children grow into resilient, creative, and independent young people, ready for the future.
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Our OT support helps children develop everyday skills such as handwriting, coordination, and self-care. Sessions are practical and fun, giving children the confidence to take on daily tasks more independently.
Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT)
SaLT helps children build communication skills, from understanding instructions to expressing feelings. Therapists work one-to-one, in small groups, and alongside teachers in class so progress feels natural and consistent.
Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA)
ELSA sessions provide a safe space for children to explore their emotions, learn coping strategies, and build resilience. These sessions are nurturing, creative, and designed to boost confidence and self-esteem.
Lego Therapy
Working in small groups, children use Lego to build communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. It’s a playful and engaging way to strengthen friendships and develop social confidence.
Attention Time
This structured programme helps children improve their attention and listening skills. Through short, engaging activities, children learn how to focus, wait, and share, which benefits their learning across the curriculum.
Sing Yourself BIG
This uplifting intervention uses singing and movement to build confidence, encourage self-expression, and support speech development. It’s joyful, energising, and helps children find their “big voice.”
RelaxadoodleMe
RelaxadoodleMe sessions teach children calming techniques through art, storytelling, and relaxation activities. These sessions promote emotional regulation and provide strategies children can use whenever they feel overwhelmed.
Animals at Hawley Woods
Our animal buddies are a treasured part of school life. Spending time with animals helps children feel calm, connected, and responsible — and often brings out confidence and joy in even the quietest pupils.
Fresh Start and Little Wandle
We use structured reading programmes to support children at all levels of their reading journey. Both Fresh Start and Little Wandle provide tailored phonics and comprehension support to build confident, enthusiastic readers.
Social Skills Programme
Through structured games and group activities, children practise turn-taking, conversation, and problem-solving. These sessions help them build friendships and develop confidence in social settings.
Subject/Skills-Based Interventions
Sometimes children need extra support in a specific area, such as maths or writing. Our bespoke. targeted interventions bridge these gaps, ensuring every child can make progress and feel proud of their achievements.
