Recently, our alpaca walks have become a regular feature. As the alpacas have grown more comfortable with both staff and pupils and vice versa these walks now happen more frequently. They take place during option sessions with the RAISE pathway when pupils choose Animal Care or Horticulture, and we’ve also incorporated them into interventions and enrichment activities. This means pupils have numerous opportunities to interact with the animals in a calm and nurturing environment.
Working alongside our therapy teams, we’re identifying pupils who would benefit from dedicated 1:1 sessions at the farm. In the new year, we’ll introduce a structured timetable to ensure these sessions provide targeted support for those who need it most.
And this is just the beginning! The farm is set to expand even further with the addition of chickens, bees, and a dedicated horticulture area. These developments will create even more opportunities for pupils to learn new skills, build confidence, and experience the therapeutic benefits of nature and animal care.
