Kedleston Schools is proud to share Future Forward, our first ESG Impact Report - a major milestone in our commitment to sustainability, social value and responsible governance across all our specialist schools in England.
The report showcases how we are creating high‑quality, nurturing environments for more than 830 children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs, while strengthening our environmental performance and deepening our community impact.
Future Forward ESG
Chief Executive Paul Brosnan describes the report as “a practical, everyday commitment to ensuring our pupils can thrive, now and into the future” — with ESG embedded in our purpose, culture and long‑term strategy.
Some of the key environmental achievements highlighted include:
- A 36.7% reduction in water consumption across the estate
- 40% of schools now fully fitted with air‑source heat pumps
- A rolling programme to replace fleet vehicles with self‑charging hybrids
- Significant CO₂ reductions in schools where heating systems and insulation have been upgraded
We are also supporting all schools to work toward Eco‑Schools accreditation, promote biodiversity and embed sustainability across the curriculum.
Social impact
Our mission remains clear: to nurture brighter futures for children with complex SEND needs through therapeutic, holistic education. The report highlights our work to:
- Empower pupils through personalised programmes and small class sizes
- Champion inclusion, diversity and equality
- Strengthen engagement with families, carers and local communities
- Support colleagues through wellbeing initiatives and inclusive recruitment
- Encourage volunteering, fundraising and community action across our schools
Governance approach
Future Forward also sets out how strong governance, evidence‑based practice and clear accountability ensure that decisions across Kedleston are ethical, transparent and always in the best interests of pupils, colleagues and communities.
Paul Brosnan adds: “Our work begins and ends with the children in our schools. ESG is not an abstract concept for us – it is about acting responsibly, ethically and sustainably so that we protect the world our pupils will inherit and strengthen the communities we serve.”
