Brookways School podcasting team attend the Autism & ADHD Show in central London

Some students from the school’s podcasting team recently had a fantastic opportunity to attend the Autism & ADHD Show in central London, where they explored a wide range of informative and inspiring stalls. The event brought together organisations, educators, and advocates dedicated to supporting autistic individuals and raising awareness of inclusive practices.

As part of their role on the podcasting team, the students didn’t just observe. Equipped with curiosity and confidence, they moved around the showcase, speaking to stallholders and gathering information. These questions were later used to form a series of short interviews.

One of their most engaging conversations was with a representative promoting diverse sensory spaces. The students learned how these environments are designed to support individuals with different sensory needs, exploring vibrating walls and squishy beanbags. The interview provided valuable insight into how schools and public places can become more inclusive and supportive.

The students also had the unique opportunity to interview their own head teacher, who had delivered a talk prior to their arrival. In their discussion, they asked about the key messages of his presentation and allowed him to reflect on his experience.

Overall, the visit was a great success. The students not only developed their interviewing skills but also deepened their understanding of autism and inclusion. Their work will soon be shared through the school’s podcast, so stay tuned to hear more about it!
