Fernways School
SurreyMessage from the Headteacher
At Fernways School, inclusivity shines brightly as we embrace each child and young person's unique journey, ensuring no one is left behind. Our aim is to cultivate independent or interdependent, resilient, confident, and motivated young people.
Central to this vision is the belief that strong, trusting relationships between staff and students form the foundation for meaningful learning and personal growth. We understand that when students feel valued, understood, and supported, they are more engaged, motivated, and ready to overcome challenges.
My vision for Fernways School is one that establishes a flourishing learning community defined by personalised learning experiences, collaborative learning, and academic rigour contextualised within real-world experiences. Equally important is our commitment to creating an environment highly attentive to the social, emotional, and mental health needs of our students. We care deeply about how our students feel and strive to ensure they are happy and healthy, both inside and outside of school.
At Fernways, we nurture each student by providing the social, emotional, and communicative support they need to navigate the wider world as we prepare them for their next steps in life. Our goal is to equip them with the skills to tackle whatever comes their way with confidence and resilience.
I am truly passionate about my role and the opportunity to lead such a dedicated team in supporting our students on this exciting path to growth and success. I warmly welcome you to be part of the Fernways community.

What We Offer
Education
Education
Our vision is to deliver a creative curriculum that is personalised for every student. We recognise that each child is unique, and so our curriculum is carefully adapted to reflect individual interests, strengths, and learning needs. This approach ensures that all students can make meaningful progress academically and personally, developing into well-rounded young people ready for the next stages of their lives.
- Personalised Learning: Curriculum pathways are designed to meet the specific educational and developmental needs of every student, with flexibility to adapt as those needs evolve.
- Broad and Varied Offerings: From Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 4, students access a range of subjects and qualification options, allowing them to explore their talents and prepare for adulthood.
- Creative Solutions: Our dedicated staff collaborate closely with parents, clinicians, and therapists to overcome barriers to learning, utilising innovative strategies to maximise each pupil’s potential.
Therapy
Therapy
At Fernways, we understand that academic progress is just one part of a child’s development. Our holistic approach supports emotional, social, and physical well-being, recognising the complex needs many of our students face.
We understand that therapy plays a vital role in unlocking potential. That’s why we provide a carefully mapped, integrated therapy provision tailored to each student’s individual needs. From universal to specialised therapies, our team tracks progress closely and shares outcomes with parents and staff, ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We offer:
- Onsite Clinical Team: We provide targeted support including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs).
- Safe and Secure Environment: Our well-established routines and homely setting create a secure space where students feel valued and motivated to thrive.
- Support for parents and Carers: We offer regular workshops for parents and carers supported by our therapy team. We also support by signposting parents to services where they can get additional support.
