Drawing on his own experiences of growing up in South London, Kenny spoke openly about the challenges he faced, including the pressures of gang culture, and how determination, resilience, and a clear sense of purpose helped him build a successful future. His honesty and authenticity immediately captured pupils' attention, creating an atmosphere of reflection and meaningful discussion.
Pupils had prepared thoughtful questions in advance and engaged confidently throughout the session. Kenny encouraged them to remain focused on their goals, even when faced with setbacks or when others doubted their potential. He emphasised that success is built through persistence, hard work, and a willingness to learn from failure.
One of the most powerful messages of the afternoon centred on the importance of relationships. Kenny spoke about investing time in others rather than isolating yourself, explaining how the right people can provide encouragement, challenge, and support during life's most difficult moments. He also highlighted the importance of humility and reminded pupils that adults have a responsibility to model the behaviours and values they hope to see in young people.
