Over the last two weeks, each form group has visited Linnet Clough Scout Campsite in Mellor, Marple Bridge, Stockport as part of our Outdoor Education programme, with students taking on the exciting challenge of the Zip Line.
Students climbed to the platform before taking that all-important step off and soaring down the zip line. For some, stepping off came naturally, while for others it took a little more courage. It was fantastic to see students encouraging and supporting one another, with plenty of cheers helping those who were nervous to take that final step.
There were some brilliant reactions, from "I'm not doing this!" on the way up to "Can I go again?" once they reached the other end. The nervous faces were quickly replaced by screams, laughter and huge smiles!
Most importantly, the sessions were about having a go, overcoming fears, developing resilience, building confidence and supporting each other. For some students, simply reaching the platform and challenging themselves was a fantastic personal achievement.
A Special Mention for Group 6
A very special mention must go to Group 6, who demonstrated that Outdoor Education is about much more than the activity itself.
During their visit, the group noticed a member of the public struggling to get a large, rolled-up bouncy castle into his work van. Instead of simply walking past or standing and watching him struggle, Noah, Frank, Gabriel, Amy, Noah, Amelia and Marley rolled up their sleeves and offered to help.
Working together, they managed to get the bouncy castle safely onto the van's lift. The gentleman was incredibly grateful, especially as it was his first day in his new job, and he was happy to have a photograph taken with the group afterwards.
It was a small act of kindness, but one that made us incredibly proud. The students showed initiative, teamwork, kindness and a willingness to help someone without being asked. Sometimes the best lessons during Outdoor Education happen when you least expect them.
A huge well done to all our form groups for challenging themselves on the zip line, and an extra special well done to Group 6 for being fantastic ambassadors for our school!
