Linnet Crate Stacking Challenge

Thursday, 24th September 2026, 08:56

Over the last two weeks, students have put their courage, teamwork and determination to the test during exciting Outdoor Education visits to Linnet Clough Scout Campsite. As towering stacks of crates grew higher and wobblier, students worked together to support climbers, solve problems and conquer their fears. There were plenty of cheers, laughs and dramatic crate collapses along the way, but one group reached an incredible 23 crates, setting a new record! Read on to discover who made it to the top, why Henry felt he was “above the clouds”, and how every student achieved something to be proud of.

Over the last two weeks, each form group has visited Linnet Clough Scout Campsite in Mellor, Marple Bridge, Stockport, as part of our Outdoor Education programme, where students took on the challenge of crate stacking.

The activity tested much more than climbing ability. Students had to use teamwork, communication, trust and problem-solving, with everyone playing a part by passing crates, offering advice and encouraging the climber.

It was fantastic to see students pushing themselves outside their comfort zones. Some raced up the crates with confidence, while others overcame their nerves one crate at a time. As the towers got higher and started to wobble, there were plenty of nervous faces, screams and laughter, especially when the crates eventually came crashing down and the climber was left safely hanging in their harness!

A special mention goes to Group 10, who achieved the highest tower of the two weeks at an impressive 23 crates, with Henry at the top. Henry felt like he was "above the clouds" and finally discovered what it feels like to be taller than Mr Alexander, although it did take 23 crates and a safety harness!

Most importantly, the sessions showed that success isn't just about reaching the highest point. Whether students climbed 2 crates or 23, everyone had the opportunity to challenge themselves, support their peers and achieve something they could be proud of.

A huge well done to all our form groups, and congratulations to Group 10 and Henry on setting the 23-crate record!
