What We Offer

Individualised education

Individualised education

Mill School Bury is an independent special school supporting children and young people across Greater Manchester and Lancashire with autism spectrum conditions and communication difficulties. The school provides a safe, nurturing environment where pupils can thrive through a personalised approach to teaching and learning. Individual assessments inform bespoke, creative curriculum tailored to each child's needs and interests.

Staff are highly qualified and experienced in supporting vulnerable children, and class sizes are kept small to maximise individual attention. Classrooms are designed as enabling environments, featuring sensory lighting, muted colours, individual workstations, and visual timetables. The school also offers advanced educational technologies, including a Rebound Room, Immersive Reality tools, and multi-sensory equipment.

The curriculum addresses each pupil's academic, emotional, social, and sensory needs, with strong collaboration between families, professionals, and the wider community. Mill School Bury aims to equip every child with the skills and confidence to succeed in learning and life.

Integrated onsite therapy

Integrated onsite therapy

At Mill School Bury, therapy is fully integrated into everyday school life, ensuring pupils receive the right support at the right time in ways that feel meaningful, practical and empowering. Our therapeutic approach is child-centred, trauma-informed and designed to help pupils overcome barriers to learning while building confidence, resilience and independence.

We provide access to a multidisciplinary therapy offer, including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Mental Health support. Therapists work closely with pupils, families, teachers and support staff to develop a deep understanding of each child’s strengths, needs and aspirations. This collaborative approach ensures therapy strategies are consistently embedded across the school day rather than delivered in isolation.

Enhanced life skills and vocational preparation offer

Enhanced life skills and vocational preparation offer

Mill School Bury provides a wide range of opportunities for students to develop essential life skills, supporting their journey toward greater independence and confidence. Through a dedicated Life Skills curriculum, pupils learn practical skills for everyday living. PSHE lessons focus on personal, social, and emotional development, while outdoor education promotes teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving. Students take part in a variety of school trips and community activities, helping them to build real-world experience and social confidence. In addition, travel training supports safe and independent navigation of public transport. Together, these experiences equip students with the tools they need to thrive beyond the classroom and in everyday life.
