The day kicked off with a school‑wide scavenger hunt, with clues hidden around the building leading pupils from one spot to the next. Each clue helped them uncover a final book‑related mystery word, and those who completed the challenge were rewarded with a book token and a special bookmark. Every class threw themselves into the activity with real enthusiasm, making it one of the highlights of the day.
Adding to the fun, pupils also took part in a “Guess the Teacher” quiz. Staff posed with books held cleverly in front of their faces—each title chosen to match their personality or interests. Pupils loved trying to figure out who was who!
Of course, no World Book Day would be complete without costumes, and Mill School Bury did not disappoint. The school halls were filled with characters from across the literary world, including:
- The Senior Leadership Team, who arrived dressed as Bananas in Pyjamas
- The English Department, brilliantly transformed into Mr and Mrs Twit
- Characters from Alice in Wonderland, including the Mad Hatter
- Thing 2, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears
- Icons from the world of fantasy, such as Harry Potter and Lucius Malfoy
- Sumo Joe, Little Red Riding Hood, Paper Dolls, and Burglar Bill
- …and many more creative and colourful costumes throughout the day!
The celebration was a fantastic reminder of the joy of reading and the power of stories to bring people together. A huge well done to all pupils and staff for making World Book Day 2026 such a memorable one.
